Academy of Art Begins Final Homestand Of 2011

Game #14
ART U (3-8-2, 1-6-2 PWC) vs. Grand Canyon (6-4-2, 5-1-1 PWC)
Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 11:00 PM
San Francisco, CA -- Boxer Field

KICKING IT OFF
The Urban Knights are coming off a tough road trip against second-place Grand Canyon, dropping matches on Thursday (0-1) and Saturday (0-3) to the Lopes. Margret Thorolfsdottir and Megan Bucci had shots in the first game, and senior Emi Sullivan had three shots on goal on Saturday, but the Knights were unable to find the back of the net against GCU goalkeeper Stephanie Phillips.

HOME SWEET HOME
Academy of Art is 2-2 at home, with victories against Dominican (1-0) and Chaminade (4-1) earlier this year. That first win against Dominican was actually played on Treasure Island, but was still considered a home match for the Knights. Boxer Field has also been the site of some historical ART U events, like Megan Bucci's three-point performance against Chaminade, which put her as the only Knight to score three points in back-to-back games.

SEASIDERS TO THE MAINLAND
BYU-Hawaii was sitting pretty atop the PacWest less than two weeks ago with an 5-0-1 record before dropping two out of their next three matches to fall to fourth place in the conference. On Oct. 19, the Seasiders lost to Cal Baptist (0-2) before beating Hawaii Pacific in overtime (1-0), but then traveled to the mainland and lost to Notre Dame de Namur (2-0). As they visit Boxer Field, the Knights will look to contain PacWest Top 10 Honor Roll selection Britt Edman, who tallied two game-winning goals last week.

HANGING TOUGH
Head coach Aileen Nasypany was encouraged by the Knights ability to hang with the top teams in the league, battling top teams Hawaii Pacific and Grand Canyon to the brink, only losing by one goal. "We were picked to finish last in the PacWest but I believe my athletes have proved they can battle with the top powerhouses this year. They continue to raise the bar with every performance."

NOT TO BE OUTDONE
Now that Margret Thorolfsdottir has tied Hannah Emmett's 2010 points mark, Emmett is now pushing to recapture that title in 2011. After her goal against Dominican, Emmett (2011) has eight points, only four behind Emmett (2010) and Thorolfsdottir, who both have 12 points. Emmett is alone atop the career scoring mark for the Knights, with 20 total points in her tenure at Academy of Art.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Knights only have two games left after Wednesday's match, both at Boxer Field. They will face Dominican for the third time (Nov. 4), and Hawaii-Hilo (Nov. 6).
