Track & Field Opens With University of Washington Indoor Preview

The Academy of Art men's and women's track & field team traveled to Washington State to take part in the UW Indoor Season Preview. The meet, which featured athletes from Division I universities like; USC, University of Washington, and Stanford, saw a lot of athletes excel in their first showcase of the 2011 season.

The women started the day off with a a third place finish by Briana Stewart in the 60m hurdles. Stewart advanced to the finals with a preliminary time of 8.59. Stewart shaved her time down to 8.48 in the final round to take third.

Pit against runners from Western and Eastern Washington, Chantel King took her heat with a with a time of 1:00.78. King placed 14th overall beating out runners from Hawaii, Seattle Pacific University to name a few.

King, Kristen Lee, and Jazmin White next tackled the 200m dash. Lee was the top finisher among the Academy of Art trio, she took sixth in 25.91. ART U ran their first 4x400 relay on the women's side. Stewart, Lee, King and Emily Allis comprised one relay team and placed ninth with a time of 4:03.33, while White, Kendall and Kylie Long, Leticia Saldana made up the other.

Stewart next entered into her feature event, the triple jump, and remained on top of her game. The senior placed first overall with a jump of 39' 06".

On the men's side the team struggled a bit to find their groove. Remigius Roskosch finally gave the Urban Knight men a high mark. The Germany native placed second in the long jump. His jump of 23' 07" landed him in second out 33 jumpers.

Newcomers Emil Tolliver and Pearson Crichlow held their own in the 60m dash. Both athletes took fourth in their respective heats. Marquis Scruggs took first in his heat in the 200m dash. Aric Armon and Crichlow ran the 200m dash and placed 18th and 24th overall.

Track & Field continues their indoor season with a meet at Boise State University on Jan 28.
