Laie, Hi--- The Urban Knights continued where they left off at the end of their 2009-10 season, with another win over BYU-Hawaii. Tonight, the women's basketball team has done what no other women's Urban Knight team, besides softball, has done - beaten the Seasiders on their home turf. Although, the 73-70 finish, which brought the Urban Knights to 4-8 overall and 2-1 in conference play, was not indicative of the whole contest between the two teams.
It was ART U who was down early in the game. The score was 8-2 when
Nicole DeRosier hit a jumper followed by a 3-pointer to bring the Urban Knights to within one point, 8-7, with 17 minutes left on the clock. “Nicole is stepping up big for us and playing in a leadership role,” said Head Coach Lindsey Yamasaki.

Jessica Nolan hit a jumper from
Devin London which gave ART U their first lead of the game, 9-8. The contest would continue to go back and fourth until five minutes into the first half when
Verity Peets hit a jumper which sparked a 15-2 run. The Seasiders tried to claw their way back into the game, but ART U was able to expand their lead to as many as 15 points before the half expired.
BYU-Hawaii entered the locker room shooting a mere 44% compared to the Urban Knights who shot 56% for the half.
Nicole DeRosier registered 16 of her team high 20 points in the first half alone.
Devin London set an Academy of Art school recorded by recording nine assists in one half. The previous record was held by now grad assistant
Sondra Stilwell who finished with eight assists in one half.
The Urban Knights maintained a sizable lead over the Seasiders until late in the second half. BYU-Hawaii made a 10-4 run on the Urban Knights to go up by one point with 46 second left on the clock. The ART U team on the floor took pride in wearing Red and Black and staved off the late run by the Seasiders to win two in a row and register their first win on BYU-Hawaii's home court. Freshman
Madeline Martin came up big for the Urban Knights by coming away with two of her four steals within the final minutes of play. As a team the Urban Knights shot 45.6% from the field and 77% from the free-throw line.
Nicole DeRosier led all ART U players with 20 points, she also finished with four assists and two steals.
Verity Peets was next with 18 points and eight rebounds.
Jessica Nolan chipped in with 14 points and 11 rebounds. While
Devin London finished with 11 points and a career high 11 assists.
"We played very hard and very consistent tonight," said Yamasaki. "Looking back on it, I'm glad we had this experience. We are getting better and better ever week. It is those moments under pressure [when they make a run at us] that we need to get through together as team. It is those moments that will make us stronger, and a win like this only makes us better in the end," Yamasaki said.
For BYU-Hawaii Richelle Riben led all players with 29 points. Kristen Hartley registered 11 points in the Seasider loss.
The Urban Knights wrap up their play in Hawaii with a final contest against Hawaii Pacific University on Wednesday evening. Opening tip is set for 5:30PM Hawaiian Time.
