Honolulu, HI – The Academy of Art University continued their Hawaiian road trip with a game against Chaminade University on Wednesday afternoon. The Urban Knights came out strong, and attacked the entire game, but the Silverswords got a lucky shot early in the game to take the lead. Despite the hard efforts of Art U's offense, they couldn't muster up a comeback. After a well fought game, the Knights fell to the Silverswords with a score of 0-1.
Just a few minutes into the game, the Silverswords found their opportunity. They were able to score what would be the only goal of the game in just over two minutes of play. After the goal, the Knights' defense stepped up big and they kept the Silverwords quiet for the rest of the game. The Urban Knights had a chance to tie the game late in the first half with a break away; but it was stopped by the Chaminade goalie to keep the Silversword lead.
ART U had solid offense all game. The put up 11 shots in the first half, and seven in the second, they were just unable to put any in the net. The women even outshot the Silverswords 18-13. Although the Urban Knights had 10 shots on goal, they were unable to match the Silverswords' early goal and ultimately lost 0-1.
"We had seven breakaways throughout the game," said Head Coach Aileen Nasypany. "We need to finish on those opportunities and the tide will shift our way. Sophomore Jasmine Sharpe entered the match in the second half and the created some additional great opportunities with her crosses. Again, we just couldn't find the back of the net. "
Junior Megan Bucci led the offensive charge for the Knights. She had nine shots, four which were on goal in the game. Also doing well was Hannah Emmett who three shots, two of which were on goal. Also putting up numbers was, Carmela Doerr, Emi Sullivan, Aubrey Williams, and Brittany Schramm who each had one shot on goal in the game. Keeper Melissa Co saw all 90 minutes of action for her team, and allowed just one goal while recording eight saves.
Brienna Maesta scored the goal for the Silverswords, and posted two shots in the game. Tiffany Nakata recorded the assist, and also had two shots. Seven other Silverswords recorded at least one shot in the game.
After the loss, The Academy of Art University's record falls to 1-6-1 overall and 0-6 in the PacWest, while Chaminade University's record improves to 1-4 overall. The Knights now head to the big island to face Hawaii Hilo on Friday October 1st. Game time is set for 3:15 (HST) in Hilo, HI.
