ART U Soars Above the Hawks

The Academy of Art women's volleyball team traveled to Oakland, CA to take on the Hawks of Holy Names University in their final non-conference match of the season. The trip was a success, as the Urban Knights left Tobin Gym with a 3-1 victory over the Hawks (25-16, 20-25, 25-19, 25-18). The win marks ART U's third in a row. Coach Magner was very pleased with the teams efforts.

"These are the types of wins we need. We want to continue to work hard and build for conference!" Magner said.

The Urban Knights'  middle blockers were the key's to their success tonight. Amy Bush had 15 kills, while Camille Board added seven. Melissa Cheng continued to shine at the setting position finishing with 50 assists and seven kills. As a team ART U out blocked the Hawks 6-2. "Defensively we steeped it up tonight and our middles came alive and sealed the deal," said Coach Magner. The Urban Knights out dug Holy Names 78-46.

Dan Yang was virtually unstoppable yet again, the senior finished the match with 22 kills and 14 digs. Right side hitter Angela Heath continued to be a spark for the Urban Knights, finishing with eight kills of her own in the match. 

Coach Magner was happy with the overall play of the team tonight but was thoroughly pleased with Leinani Keanini's play, " Lei was amazing tonight. She had 24 digs and really sacrificed her body for the good of the team," said Magner.

The Urban Knights return to the court Wednesday Sept 22 when they take on the first of two home matches against Grand Canyon University. Opening serve is set for 7:00 PM at Kezar Pavilion.
