Game Notes (includes career/season-highs)
ACADEMY OF ART WELCOMES GRAND CANYON TO BAY AREA:
Coming off a pair of victories against Division III St. Joseph's College, the Urban Knights will face Grand Canyon University in four games this Friday and Saturday. The last PacWest homestand for AAU is scheduled to take place in Moraga, CA.
FIRST PITCH:
The Knights and Antelopes square off in a doubleheader this Friday, Apr. 9 beginning at 12:00 PM. A second doubleheader follows on Saturday, Apr. 10 with the first pitch set for 10:00 AM. All four games will be played at Louis Guisto Baseball Field on the campus of St. Mary's College in Moraga, CA. Live score updates for the contests can be found on the Urban Knights' athletics site,
Twitter, and

KNIGHT SPOTLIGHT:
It was a impressive week for junior infielder/outfielder
Ryan Worley and sophomore outfielder
Johnathan Robbins who were both selected to the PacWest Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll.
Worley finished the six-game week 10-for-23 (.435) with nine runs scored, five RBIs, and seven steals.
Robbins was equally solid, going 9-for-23 (.391) with seven runs, seven RBIs, and six steals. The pair currently lead the PacWest in stolen bases and
Worley has now swiped at least one bag in his last six games. After his complete game victory against St. Joseph's, freshman right-hander
Jeff Smith (1-3) now has the best ERA (8.10) of the Knights' starting pitchers. He and junior righty
Darnell Quinney (0-8) each have 40.0 or more innings pitched while
Quinney still tops the team with 31 strikeouts.
SCOUTING THE ANTELOPES:
Since the beginning of PacWest competition, Grand Canyon has continued to hover around the middle of the league standings with a .500 record.
When the Knights encountered the Antelopes in Arizona on Mar. 12-13, AAU earned its first two victories of the season and the teams split the series. From that point, GCU took two of four games from Cal Poly Pomona of the CCAA and triumphed in three of a five-part series with Hawaii-Hilo. The Lopes plated a season-high 20 runs in the rubber match of the matchup with the Vulcans. Academy of Art will watch out for Tyler Bair's bat as he leads the team with a .397 batting average, 32 RBIs, and 12 doubles. On the mound, Jeff Urlaub (3-2) has thrown the most innings (52.0) for Grand Canyon and boasts the lowest ERA (2.77) along with the most strikeouts (45).
KNIGHTS EXECUTE SATURDAY SWEEP OF ST. JOSEPH'S COLLEGE:
AAU pulled off two very different 10-6 victories over Division III St. Joseph's College in a neutral site doubleheader this past Saturday, Apr. 3. In game one, the Knights got on the board early with a four-run first and continued to use their speed to add to the lead despite two rallies from the Bears. The second contest began with a 3-0 advantage for SJC through two innings, but Academy of Art stayed close. In the fourth, AAU tied the game 6-6 and then proceeded to knock two home runs out of the park in the sixth to finish off the sweep.
Robbins was on base often for the Knights and ended Saturday 4-for-7 with five RBIs, two runs scored, and two stolen bases. The home runs were belted by freshman first baseman
Andy Caniezo and sophomore third baseman
Kenny Rollins, Jr. who combined to go 4-for-6 with five RBIs and four runs scored in game two.
LOOKING AHEAD:
Academy of Art baseball is scheduled to play four more non-conference contests prior to its PacWest roadtrip in Hawaii that will conclude the 2010 season. Up next, the Knights will face Patten University on Apr. 16 at Contra Costa College in San Pablo, CA, Bethany University in a road doubleheader on Apr. 17, and Patten one final time on Apr. 18 at Del Mar High School in San Jose, CA.
