KNIGHTS AND EAGLES FACE OFF IN NEXT TWO GAMES:

After beginning their season with three contests against Cal State Stanislaus, Academy of Art University baseball turns its attention to Concordia University (CA) of the NAIA for a pair of games this weekend.

FIRST PITCH:
AAU will be in Irvine, CA for the two-game series with the Concordia Eagles. The opening contest takes place on Friday, Feb. 12 with the first pitch set for 2:00 PM at Eagles Field. Saturday, Feb. 13 will have the Knights and Eagles meet for game two at 12:00 PM also at Concordia's home field.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES:
At home for three of its first four games, Concordia University (CA) has earned victories over a variety of opponents. On Jan. 26, the Eagles started with a 5-1 win against Simpson College in which they got their first and only home run of the year from first baseman Bryan Nicholson. Three days later, Concordia fell 7-5 to Oregon Institute of Technology, but then bounced back with a close 4-3 triumph over Cal Poly Pomona on Feb. 2. The Eagles then defeated another CCAA school in Cal State Dominguez Hills 11-0 on Monday, Feb. 8 of this week. Outfielder Pete Lemone currently paces the squad with a .538 batting average, two doubles, and three runs batted in. On the mound, left-handed starting pitcher Bennett Whitmore sports a 3-0 record and a 0.73 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 24.2 innings of work.

STANISLAUS DEFEATS AAU IN SERIES LAST WEEKEND
The Urban Knights and Warriors were only able to play three games of the four that were originally scheduled due to inclement weather this past weekend and Cal State Stanislaus was victorious in all three. CSUS took the first game 24-1 after getting the lead via a two-run home run in the first inning. Junior infielder/outfielder Ryan Worley drove in AAU's lone run with a double in the seventh inning. Sunday featured a doubleheader in which the Warriors won the first game 17-2 and followed with a 10-0 victory in game two. The pair of runs scored by Academy of Art in the first game were again because of Worley's bat. After two of his teammates had drawn walks, Worley reached first base on an error to plate both runners. Junior designated hitter Chris Vargas continued his solid offensive play from last season with hits in all three games over the weekend.

LOOKING AHEAD:
A three-game series against Fresno Pacific University (CA) of the NAIA is up next for Academy of Art a week after the Knights are finished in Irvine, CA. AAU travels to Fresno, CA for the stretch against the Sunbirds taking place on Feb. 19-20.
