Urban Knights Unable to Hold Off BYU Hawaii

Box Score

L
aie, HI – In the first of their two meetings this season, the Urban Knights (6-13, 2-6 Pac West) fell to Brigham Young University at Hawaii (6-11, 2-5 Pac West) Wednesday, 80-75. In a game that saw 12 ties and seven different lead changes, Academy of Art University was on the losing end of a well fought battle.

For only the third time this season the Urban Knights had four different players score in double digits. Junior Verity Peets led the way by putting up 19 points, 17 in the second half alone. The forward knocked down 5-of-8 shots from the floor and 9-of-15 from the free throw line while pulling down 10 rebounds against the Seasiders.

AAU took charge right from the start leading for most of the 20 minutes, at times by as many as nine. Junior Jessica Nolan orchestrated the surge as she notched 13 points and had eight rebounds in the first half alone.

AAU would take their lead deep into the second half but and 8-2 run by the Seasiders with less than a minute remaining would be too much for the Urban Knights to overcome.

Nolan, who is second in the Pac West averaging 8.1 rebounds per game, finished strong as she recorded 15 points and tallied 10 rebounds against BYU-Hawaii.

Another stellar performance came from senior Sondra Stilwell. The guard provided an offensive spark for the Urban Knights as she added 11 points connecting on 3-of-5 shots from behind the arc. Stilwell, who leads the team in points per game, also pulled down four rebounds and dished out three assists against the Seasiders.

Sophomore Lorraine Etchell recorded 12 points and handed out a team high six assists in her 30 minutes on the floor.

Richelle Fenenbock and Felisita Ika were the standouts for the Seasiders. The two combined for 12-of-22 from the floor for 17 points each. Lindsey Sudin led on the defensive side grabbing 12 rebounds for BYU-Hawaii.

The Urban Knights will conclude the Hawaii portion of their schedule on Friday, February 5th when they head to Honolulu to take on Chaminade. Tip-off is set for 5:30 (Hawaiian Time) at McCabe Gymnasium.
