Game #9
AAU (5-5-1) @ CSU Monterey Bay (7-1)
Thursday, February 25th at 11:00 AM & 2:00 PM
Seaside, CA – Baseball/softball complex
Urban Knight Update: AAU had a minor set back in their play after their games in the Desert Stinger Tournament and their home opener last week. After splitting with first year program William Jessup last week, the Knights still had a losing record. But that all changed this past weekend as the Urban Knights swept Menlo College. Now back at .500, the Urban Knights will play a tough double header against CSU Monterey Bay. The Monterey Bay double header was originally scheduled for Wednesday, February 24th, but it has now been changed to Thursday, February 25th at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
Leading the Knights: Junior Ashley Lokey leads the team offensively with a .435 batting average with 17 hits, and 11 runs scored. Junior Alana Aweau is also off to a strong start this season with a .316 batting average including two home runs, and 10 runs batted in (first on the team). Sophomore Sierrah Garcia has been solid on the mound with a 3.37 ERA, and 50 strikeouts.
Scouting CSU Monterey Bay: The Otters are off to a strong start to their 2010 season. They have a current record of 7-1, with their only loss coming from PacWest members Grand Canyon University. Junior Marisa Trujillo leads the Otters with a .409 batting average with nine hits, and one double. Junior Shae Olds is also doing well with a .261 batting average including five home runs, and 11 runs batted in (1st on the team in both). Olds also leads with a .913 slugging percentage, and six walks. Lefty pitcher Nicole Garcia supports the Otters by giving solid pitching performances for her team. In over 20 innings pitched, Garcia has a 3.92 ERA, giving up 17 hits, nine earned runs, 17 walks, and has recorded nine strikeouts. When these two teams faced each other in the fall, the Otters came out on top and defeated the Urban Knights.
Looking Ahead: After the double header, the Knights take a week off in order to gear up for a long home stand. In the first game of the home stand, the Urban Knights will host Holy Names University on Wednesday, March 3rd. Game times are set for 3:00 and 5:00 PM. The Academy of Art University will also host their “Swing for a Cause” game on March 6th when they host Oregon Institute of Technology and Patten University.
