San Francisco. CA--- The Academy of Art University women's volleyball team downed the Hawks of Holy Names University in three straight sets tonight at Kezar Pavilion, 25-11, 25-23, 25-15. The win marks ART U's fourth in row and puts them at 13-8 overall heading into a four game road stint in Hawaii. The loss drops Holy Names to 13-9 overall, but they still remain undefeated in the CalPac.
It was the Urban Knight's game from the opening serve. ART U started the game on an ace, which set the tone for the whole match. The Urban Knights were able to keep the Hawks to just six kills in the first and a -.032 hitting percentage. The Lady Knights jumped out to an early 6-1 lead before HNU registered their first kills of the set. ART U kept a five/six point cushion for the majority of the set until Freshman
Janie Atkinson stepped in and served for 10 straight points to close set one, 25-11.
As a team, ART U hit .371 for the game, including an impressive .421 in the third set alone. And despite a close second set, the Urban Knights were in complete control of the match, cruising to the 3-0 win. The Academy women more than doubled the number of kills than their opponent, finishing with 53 to Holy Names' 25. The Urban Knights also dished out 45 assists, 42 of which belonged to sophomore setter
Melissa Cheng who finsihed with the match high.
Holy Names struggled to find their offense tonight, hitting a combined .160 for the game. Samantha Miller topped the team with 10 kills and seven digs. Mariah Christensen and Natalie Kasbarian took turns at the setting position and finished with 11 and nine assists respectively.
Dan Yang led the way with 15 kills, six digs, and one block assist.
Camille Board followed with 13 kills, a commanding .526 hitting percentage, and four blocks.
Amy Bush had an impressive night as well, finishing with 10 kills on 16 attempts and zero errors. Bush hit a remarkable .625 for the game.
Angela Heath was also solid for the Knights, finishing with eight kills and one block assist. Defensively, three players finished with double digit digs.
Leinani Keanini paced the group with 15, while
Kanoe Irvine and
Janie Atkinson finished with 14 and 12 respectively. As a team, ART U out dug Holy Names 52 - 29.
ART U will use the rest of this week to gear up for a grueling four game road trip to Hawaii, where they will battle the top three teams in the PacWest. Their first game on the road will be against No. 1 University of Hawaii-Hilo on Sunday Oct 31. Game is slated for 7:00 PM Hawaiian Time.
