Box Score

San Francisco, CA ---
The Urban Knight women's volleyball team snapped a three game losing streak tonight on their home court of Kezar Pavilion. The Urban Knights started conference play on a five game win streak, until they faced some tough Hawaiian competition. ART U dropped three straight matches before tonight's game against the Silverswords of Chaminade University. The Urban Knights have not lost to the Silverswords since their first meeting in 2008, tonight was no different as ART U swept Chaminade, 25-16, 25-15, 25-20.

The Urban Knights kept the Silverswords under 10 kills during the opening two sets. ART U never trailed in the match and was the first team to register a point in all three sets. Sophomore setter Melissa Cheng was a big key in the Urban Knights victory. Cheng recorded a career high 12 kills, while also dishing out 24 assists. The sophomore had an amazing .667 hitting percentage, was 12 of 18, and had zero errors on the night.

All things were working tonight for the Urban Knights who dominated the match from the opening serve. "We have been talking about focus and being in the moment all week," said Head Coach Allison Magner. It was that focus that allowed ART U to keep Chaminade to an overall .113 hitting percentage, while captilizing on CUH's 16 attack errors and nine service errors. The Urban Knights' focus, in turn, helped them hit .257 on the game, and almost double the number of kills by out hitting the Silverwords 42-28.

As a team ART U committed just 15 errors, a vast improvement from their last three matches. Individually Dan Yang knocked down 13 kills, added an ace, eight digs, and two block assists. Caitlin Boring and Amy Bush each chipped in with five kills a piece while Bush added three block assists. The Urban Knights out dug the Silverswords 49-38, and finished with 10 more assists than CUH, 35.

The Silverswords were led offensively by Crystal Powell who finished the night with 10 kills. Tanya Alvino set up 22 assists and had 10 digs.

ART U returns to Kezar Pavilion Tuesday Oct 19 at 7:00 PM for a non-conference match against William Jessup University.
