San Francisco, CA --- The Urban Knight women's volleyball team dropped tonight's match against first place University of Hawaii - Hilo in three sets (13-25, 13-25, 19-25). The Urban Knights seemed sluggish from the start, with no player breaking into the double digit column in terms of kills. As a team ART U hit a meager .117 percent, registering just 27 kills and committing 17 errors.
The first two sets were painful to watch for Urban Knight fans who we're hoping for a victory. ART U finished all sets on errors, and combined for just fifteen kills between sets one and two. With the match as close as one point in the first, three consecutive ART U errors extended the Vulcans lead to 6-12. The Urban Knights would score just seven more points en route to the 13-25 loss.
The Second set was much like the first, as ART U was able to keep the set early in the beginning 5-5. But, five straight points by the Vulcans gave UHH a lead that ART U could not overcome. Ultimately dropping the set, 13-25.
Set three looked promising. Outside hitters
Dan Yang and
Angela Heath really came alive for the Urban Knights.
Heath registered four of her eight kills in the third. While
Yang also knocked down four of her seven kills in the set. The Urban Knights were able to get the set to within five points, 19-24. But an error on the next play ended the set and the match.
Hilo's Hillary Hurley led all players with 18 kills and just two errors. Leilani Ramsey finished the night with 10 kills, a block solo and two block assists. Katie Swenson had a match high 33 assists
For ART U
Angela Heath had eight kills.
Dan Yang finished with seven kills and 11 digs.
Melissa Cheng dished out 24 assists along with four kills.
Camille Board also added four kills and two block assists.
The Urban Knights return to the court Thursday Oct 14 when they take on Silverswords of Chaminade University. Opening serve is set for 7:00 PM at Kezar Pavilion.
