Urban Knights Fall to Biola

La Mirada, CA—The Academy of Art University's women's soccer team came out strong against Biola University (CA) on Monday afternoon. Coming off a tough loss two days earlier, the Urban Knights showed a lot of fight in their game against the Eagles. After a scoreless game in the first half, the Eagles took the lead in the early minutes of the second half and ended up defeating the Urban Knights with a final score of 2-0.

The Urban Knights did manage two shots in the first half and two in the second, but were ultimately outshot by the Eagles 12-4. Solid defense was key for the Academy of Art University in the first half. Keeping the Eagles quiet was not easy, but the Urban Knights posted two saves in the first. They were able to keep the Eagles scoreless until the 51st minute of play, and only allowed one more goal in the 73rd minute of the game.

Academy of Art University sophomore goal keeper Solveig Barnes played the entire 90 minutes. Barnes gave up two goals and had two saves in the game. Sophomore Emi Sullivan had a strong offensive day again for her team. She had one shot, and one shot on goal in the match. Freshman Jasmine Sharpe had one shot on goal and freshman Carolyn Cordeiro also had one shot on the day.

Lead scorers for the Eagles were Bethany Wikfors and Sam David who both had one shot and one goal in the game. Biola University's goal keeper Erin Frushon had two saves in the match. Nikki Mathis, Brianna Yarber and Ashley Moseley each had two shots and one shot on goal on the day.

With the loss the Academy of Art University's record falls to 0-4-0 overall, while Biola University's record improves to 1-0-1 on the season. The Urban Knights continue their road trip on Thursday September 10th when they take on Menlo College (CA). This will be the last game for the Urban Knights before they begin PacWest conference play next week. Game time against Menlo is set for 4:00pm in Atherton, CA.
