Los Angeles, CA-- The Urban Knights headed to Southern California to start their five game road trip, and faced a very good Cal State L.A. team on Saturday night. The Academy of Art University held the Golden Eagles for as long as they could, but the Golden Eagle offense was too strong. CSULA scored first in the 12th minute of play, and never looked back. The Urban Knights ended up dropping the game with a final score of 9-0.
The Urban Knights had a stronger start in the first half than they've had in their other two games of the season. As a team they posted five shots in the first half. They were overpowered in the second half and were only able to manage one shot. The Golden Eagles outshot the Academy of Art University 33-6 overall.
Despite the loss, Urban Knight Sophomore Emi Sullivan had a strong game for her team. She recorded four shots on the day, three that were shots on goal. Junior Miriam Tolentino and sophomore Olivia Dupon, each posted a shot during the game. Freshman goal keeper Melissa Co had a busy day giving up nine goals and managing nine saves.
For the Golden Eagles Gabbi Sagall had a solid day with seven shots, three goals and one assist. Also having a good game were Jasmin Stuemper who had four shots, and two goals and Alex Conley who had seven shots, one goal and two assists on the night. Liz Franco, Erica Thomas and Ann Marie Tangorra each recorded a goal during the game. A total of eleven CSULA players put up a shot in the match, and goal keeper Jessie Walworth had four saves in the first half.
With the loss the Academy of Art University's record falls to 0-3 on the season, and Cal State L.A.'s record improves to 3-0 (all shutouts). The Urban Knights continue non conference play on the road against Biola University (CA) on Monday, September 7th. Game time is set for 3:30pm in La Mirada, CA.
