Belmont, CA-- The Urban Knights started conference play on Saturday morning against Notre Dame De Namur University (NDNU). Still looking for their first win of the season, the Academy of Art University came out extremely strong in the match. The Urban Knights scored in the first few second of the game taking an early lead, while NDNU tied things up at the end of the half. When both teams scored in the second half, they forced the game in over time. In the final minutes of second overtime, the Argonauts scored the winning goal, and the Urban Knights ended up losing with a final score of 2-3.
It was sophomore
Olivia Dupon who gave the Urban Knights the early lead. She scored an unassisted goal seventeen seconds into the game. NDNU scored one goal towards the end of the first half, and then took the lead in the 56th minute of the match. It was then strong defense and solid goal keeping that kept the Academy of Art University in the game. In the 77th minute of play,
Carmela Doerr scored a goal which tied things up at two and sent the game into overtime.
The women battled through the first overtime, keeping the Argonauts scoreless. With the game in second overtime, the Argonauts caught a huge break when AAU's
Olivia Dupon received a red card ejection. With the Urban Knights down a player, the Argonauts were able to capitalize on the ejection and scored the winning goal off a header in the 108th minute of play.
Freshman
Carmela Doerr had a great game for the Urban Knights. She had five shots, including three shots on goal, and one goal on the day. Sophomore
Olivia Dupon also did well with one shot on goal and one goal, while freshman
Carolyn Cordeiro had one assist on the day. Goal keeper
Solveig Barnes kept her team in the game with seven saves and only allowed three goals. The Urban Knights were out shot by NDNU 24-9.
For the NDNU Argonauts Sally Olsson had a strong game with six shots, three shots on goal and two goals in the game. Olsson scored the winning goal in second overtime. Her teammate Samantha Paetz did well with three shots, two which were on goal, and one goal in the game. The Argonaut's goal keeper Kelsey Baxter had five saves and gave up two goals on the day.
With the loss the Academy of Art University's record falls to 0-6 on the season, and Notre Dame de Namur's record improves to 1-4 overall. The Urban Knights play again on Monday September 21st, against Dominican University. This will be their final game on the road, before they return home on the 24th. Game time is set for 2:00pm in San Rafael, CA.
