Urban Knights on Losing End of Defensive Battle

Box Score

Oakland, CA –
The Urban Knights (3-4) were edged by Holy Names University (7-6) Friday, 70-60. After Academy of Art University started the game strong, leading for the first 13 minutes of the game, they struggled in the second half and surrendered a lead they would not regain.

Junior forward Jessica Nolan was outstanding for AAU, as the team's leading rebounder brought down a game high 12 rebounds. Nolan, who is averaging just under 10 rebounds a game, also added 13 points, two blocks and four assists for the Urban Knights.

Both teams were sharp on defense as AAU was held to only 33 percent from the floor, and Holy Names shot only 38 percent. The Urban Knights dominated on the boards out-rebounding the Hawks 52-44, including 28 in the second half, but they were unable to shut down Holy Names who notched 36 points in the paint.

Although the Hawks led by as much as 20 points in the second half, AAU was able to bring the deficit to eight with a lay up by senior Sondra Stilwell, but time ran out before the Urban Knights were able to complete their comeback.

For the fourth time in as many games, Stilwell led AAU with 15 points, bringing her average to 13.7 for the season. Sophomore guard Lorraine Etchell contributed 12 points, seven rebounds and had a team high five steals for the Urban Knights. Both Stilwell and Etchell have played outstanding this season and both were recognized this week by the PacWest as the duo was named to the Top 10 honor roll.
