ROAD WARRIORS
The Urban Knights continue their road stint this weekend; the Urban Knights will travel across the Bay Bridge to Oakland, CA where they will take on the Hawks of Holy Names University on Friday evening. Less than 24 hours later, the Urban Knights hop on a plane to Los Angeles, CA where they will face the Eagles of Cal State L.A.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS
Holy Names University is now 6-6 going into their game with AAU. HNU started slow, dropping their first three games of the season. However, the Hawks have since won their last three games, with their most recent victory coming over La Sierra University, 87-49 on Dec. 5. Two players are leading the way offensively for the Hawks; Jamie-Leigh Ronolo and Lesley Vodiscka are both averaging 12.1 points per game, while Vodiscka also tops the team with 36 assists (3.4 per game) and 51 steals. Suman Bains holds the spot as the team's top rebounder, she has grabbed 52 rebounds and is averaging 5.2 per game.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Much like the Urban Knights, the Eagles have also started their season on the road. Their match-up with the Urban Knights will be their first home game of the season. The Eagles have dropped their first four games thus far, and are 0-2 in conference and 0-4 overall. Jameiz Terrell is leading the team offensively, as the sophomore point guard is averaging 10.5 points per game. Terrell is shooting 40% from the floor and is 50% from beyond the arc. Jordan Kuzma leads the Eagles on the glass with 34 rebounds, and is also the Eagles third leading scorer, averaging 7.0 ppg.
LAST GAME RECAP
The Academy of Art University (3-3) was unable to hold off Central Washington (1-4) as the Wildcats won their home opener, 87-55. The Urban Knights leading scorer,
Sondra Stilwell, once again led the team with 15 points as she has proved all season to be an offensive force.
The senior guard, who is averaging 13.5 points per game, knocked down 7-16 shots from the floor and distributed four assists in her 35 minutes on the floor.
For the fifth time in six games, junior forward
Jessica Nolan was the team's leading rebounder bringing down six in the game against Central Washington. Sophomore guard
Lorraine Etchell had another good game notching 13 points, including knocking down all four free throws, and grabbing two rebounds against the Wildcats.
TWO KNIGHTS EARN TOP 10
Despite going 0-2 over the weekend, both
Sondra Stilwell (Redding, CA) and
Lorraine Etchell (Healdsburg, CA) were selected to the PacWest Top 10 Honor Roll for games played during the week of Nov. 30 - Dec. 6.
In the Urban Knights' first game of the weekend against St. Martin's University, AAU's leading scorer senior guard
Sondra Stilwell, continued to shine as she led the team with a game high 16 points.
Stilwell knocked down seven of her 15 shots, two of which were behind the arc. She also handed out two assists and had a game high four steals.
In game two, against a tough Central Washington team,
Stilwell, once again led the team with 15 points. She knocked down 7-16 shots from the floor and distributed four assists in her 35 minutes of play.
Stilwell is ranked second in PacWest in scoring (17.0 ppg.), she shot 47.7% from the floor (21 for 44), finished tied for fifth in assists per game for the week (3.0), and ranked fifth in steals per game (2.7).
Stilwell tied for fourth in three-point shooting (43.8%) after making 7 of 16 and tied for third in three-pointers made per game (2.3).
Lorraine Etchell has come into her own this season, posting 20 points in the Urban Knights match against Simpson Univ. on Nov. 30 and this week being selected to the PacWest Honor Roll. In the Knights' game against St. Martin's University,
Etchell stood out as she added 12 points, hit 4 of her 6 three point shots, and pulled down five rebounds for the Urban Knights.
In AAU's next match against Central Washington,
Etchell had another solid game notching 13 points, including knocking down all four free throws, and grabbing two rebounds.
For the week,
Etchell ranked sixth in scoring in the PacWest. She boasted 15.0 points per game and ranked eighth in shooting (48.5%) after making 16 of 33 field goal attempts.
Etchell was 6 for 7 from the line (85.7%) to tie for sixth during the week, she also tied for third in three-pointers made per game (2.3), and tied for fourth in three-point shooting (7 for 16 - 43.8%).
