Urban Knights Shutout by Dixie State 0-3

St. George, UT—The Academy of Art University battled the top seated PacWest contenders of Dixie State College in a late afternoon game on Thursday. The Red Storm lived up to their reputation when their offense immediately put pressure on the Urban Knights.  The Urban Knights' defense was able to hold the Red Storm as the game was scoreless at the end of the first half. But the relentless Red Storm offense proved to be too much for the young Academy of Art University team, as the Urban Knights ended up losing with a final score of 0-3.

Even with the Red Storm breathing down their backs from the start, the Urban Knights kept their composure through the entire match.  After 14 shots in the first half, the game was tied at zero through the first 45 minutes of play. However, the Academy of Art University's defense could not keep up, and the Red Storm scored in the first three minutes of the second half. Dixie was able to tack on two more goals in the late minutes of the game to ensure their victory. The Urban Knights were only able to manage one shot on goal in the match, and they were out shot by the Red Storm 30-1.

Sophomore Veronica Gutierrez had the only shot on goal for the Urban Knights in the game. Freshman Melissa Co stepped into the goal keeper position for this match. Co played all 90 minutes and allowed just three goals. She recorded four saves in the first half, and seven in the second for a total of 11 saves on the day.

Dixie State's Carly Haycock had a strong game for her team. She had five shots, including four on goal and two goals on the day. Camille Peterson had two shots on goal and one goal in the game, and Mikala Wilkes had seven shots, with one shot on goal and one assist in the match.

With the loss the Academy of Art University's record falls to 3-14-2 overall and 3-8-2 in conference, while Dixie State College's record improves to 13-4 overall and 12-1 in conference. The Urban Knights will play their final game of the season against Grand Canyon University on Saturday, November 7th. Game time is set for 12:00 PM in Phoenix, AZ.
