St. George, UT – Academy of Art University (1-1) suffered their first loss of the season Friday, when they fell to undefeated Fort Lewis College (7-0), 78-54. The game was the first of two that the Urban Knights will play in St. George, Utah at the Dixie State Thanksgiving Classic.
For the second time in two games, junior forward Verity Peets led the Urban Knights with 18 points. Peets, who has averaged 19 points per game this season, also grabbed a team high seven rebounds.
Falling behind early, the Urban Knights were unable to overcome a halftime deficit of 21 points. The Skyhawks shot 59 percent in the first half and maintained their offensive success posting 33 points in the second half.
The Urban Knights shot over 43 percent from the field hitting 22 of 51 baskets, but struggled shooting hitting only 1-9 behind the arc. The team committed 28 turnovers which led to 30 fast break points for the Skyhawks.
AAU spread the ball well, with seven different players scoring at least five points. Junior guard Ashleigh Frazier added nine points and brought down two rebounds while junior guard Sondra Stilwell led the team with four assists.
Allison Rosel had success for Fort Lewis on both the offensive and defensive ends. Rosel recorded 20 points, four steals and five defensive rebounds for the Skyhawks. Audrey George also made an impact adding 14 points.
In their second contest of the Dixie State Thanksgiving Classic, the Urban Knights take on Pittsburg State University. The game will take place on Saturday Nov. 28th at 1 p.m.
