Men's Soccer Falls to Vulcans 5-0

Academy of Art University men's soccer got down early against the University of Hawaii-Hilo Vulcans and could not recover Friday afternoon at Amauluu Field. UHH topped the Urban Knights 5-0 with two goals in the first half and three in the second. AAU was led by senior midfielder Jaime Patino-Calvo who finished with two shots on goal. The loss drops the Knights to 4-13-1 overall and 1-11 in Pacific West Conference play while the Vulcans improve to 9-8 overall and 8-3 in league.

Hawaii-Hilo outshot Academy of Art 11-0 in the opening period and scored first in the 24th minute when forward Eduardo Ayala netted a ball in the middle of the box off a pass from defender Alex Shaw. Just before halftime, the Vulcans' forward Omar Garcia added another goal in the 42nd minute off a save by sophomore goalkeeper Daniel Waller with the assist credited to forward Logan Montenegro. Waller managed four saves in the period.

UHH built on its 2-0 halftime lead when Montenegro scored two more goals in a 20-minute span beginning in the 56th minute. Montenegro's second goal came in the 78th minute off a pass from forward Go Eto. The second period saw a better offensive attack from Academy of Art where the visitors were only outshot 8-7. One final Vulcan goal was scored on a breakaway by midfielder Ivan Mercado in the 88th minute.

In addition to Patino-Calvo's two shots on goal, freshman forward Brazer Bozlak added two shots (one on goal). Sophomore midfielder Richard Luna and junior midfielder Manuel Padilla both came off the bench and each recorded one shot on goal for the Knights. Waller finished with five saves and five goals allowed in 90 minutes.

On Hawaii-Hilo's side, Montenegro had the top performance with two goals in a match-high five shots along with one assist. Mercado added one goal out of two shots attempted on goal and five different Vulcans notched assists in the contest. Goalkeeper Dane Kaylor earned the 90-minute shutout with three saves and had help from his teammates for a pair of team saves as well.

This match concludes Academy of Art University's roadtrip in Hawaii. The Urban Knights travel to St. George, UT for its next match against Dixie State on Nov. 5 followed by the season finale versus Grand Canyon on Nov. 7.
