Honolulu, HI-- In an early Wednesday morning game the Academy of Art University battled Chaminade University. Completely turning things around from their previous game, the Urban Knights seemed to have control of this game. The Urban Knights' offense was strong and came out attacking from the beginning, but the Silverswords' defense stepped up and held AAU scoreless for the majority of the match. It wasn't until the 78th minute of play, that the Urban Knights were able to score their first and only goal of the game. That single goal would be enough to hold the Silverswords, and the Urban Knights ended up winning with a final score of 1-0.
Looking like a completely different team offensively, the Academy of Art University had several opportunities to score in the game. They outshot the Silverswords 21-6. Eleven of their 21 shots were on goal. The Chaminade goal keeper kept her team in the game, but the late goal cost them the contest. Freshman Aubrey Williams scored the lone goal which was assisted by sophomore Morgan LeFever.
Leading the offense for the Urban Knights was Carmela Doerr who had six shots, five which were on goal and Aubrey Williams who had two shots on goal and one goal in the game. Morgan LeFever had three shots, including one on goal and one assist, and Olivia Dupon had four shots, one which was on goal on the day. Four other Urban Knights had shots in the match.
Goal Keeper Solveig Barnes played all 90 minutes for the Academy of Art University. She allowed no goals and had two saves in the game. Barnes recorded her second win and shutout of the season.
For the Silverswords, Dominique Bocanegra had a good game managing two shots, one which was on goal, and Marissa Faye also had two shots, with one shot on goal on the day. Goal Keeper Marissa Minor was key for her team's defense. Minor played all 90 minutes giving up just one goal and collected ten saves.
With the win the Academy of Art University's record improves to 2-13-2 overall and 2-7-2 in conference, while Chaminade University's record falls to 0-14 overall. The Urban Knights continue their Hawaiian road-trip by playing University of Hawaii-Hilo on Friday, October 30th. Game time is set for 2:30PM (5:30PST) in Hilo, HI.
