Game # 15
AAU (1-11-2/1-5-2) @ UC Santa Cruz (10-3/7-2)
October 23rd at 4:00PM
Santa Cruz, CA- East Soccer Field (UCSC campus)
Recapping the home-stand: The Urban Knights have had a rough start to the 2009 season; as lack of roster depth has greatly impacted the team. The women were 0-4-2 in conference play heading into the final games of the home-stand last week. The women earned their first win of the season with a 3-0 victory over Chaminade on October 12th. After the win it seemed as if things were about to change for the Urban Knights, but they had a set back when they dropped their final home game of the year to Dominican University on Saturday, October 17th. The Urban Knights now have an overall record of 1-11-2 and a conference record of 1-5-2.
Looking forward: The Academy of Art University heads on the road to face UC Santa Cruz, for a one game stint against the Division III powerhouse. It will be the last game locally before the Urban Knights head to Hawaii for a five day, three game road trip.
Scouting UC Santa Cruz: The Banana Slugs are off to a great start this season. They have a 10-4 overall record and a 7-3 conference record. Wendy funk is leading the team with seven goals and two assists for a total of sixteen points, and Kira Ticus is also leading with eight goals for a total of sixteen points herself. Sarah Damert is not far behind with four goals and four assists for a total of 12 points on the season. The Banana Slugs have a much more experienced team than the Urban Knights. They are led by seven seniors and seven juniors. However, this is the first year for the Banana Slugs under new head coach Josh Schelhorse.
Still to come: After the one game match up against the Banana Slugs, the Urban Knights continue on the road for the remainder of the season. Next they head to Hawaii to face three of the four Hawaiian schools in the PacWest conference. The Urban Knights will be in Hawaii from October 26th to October 30th. They first take on BYU-Hawaii on Monday, October 26th at 1:00PM.
