BACK IN CONFERENCE:
The Urban Knights finished up a three match non-conference stint this week. They went 1-2, dropping the first two matches to Cal State Monterey bay (0-3), and Menlo College (1-3), but toppled the Hawks of Holy Names 3-2. Despite their two losses two Urban Knights were selected to the Pacific West Conference Top 10 Honor Roll.
Amy Bush earned her second nomination of the season ranking third in the PacWest in hitting for the week (.489) she also posted 28 kills in 47 attempts with just five errors, and tied for ninth in kills per game for the week (3.11).
Dan Yang continued her streak by being nominated for the eighth week in a row. She totaled 42 points on 40 kills, an ace and two block assists. She averaged 4.67 points per game, ranking third in the league for the week, and topped the league in kills per game (4.44).
ALOHA HAWAII:
AAU is off to Hawaii where they will take on BYU-Hawaii and University of Hawaii – Hilo twice before returning to San Francisco. Following their trip to Hawaii the Urban Knights will have just six more games left before closing out their second season.
SCOUTING THE SEASIDERS:
The Urban Knights take on BYU-Hawaii first where they will face the PacWest player of the week in sophomore outside hitter Losaline Faka'osi. Faka'osi has been named the Pacific West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week. She led the Seasiders to a 3-0 week in conference play and helped BYU-Hawaii climb back into the PacWest race. She averaged 4.21 points per game after tallying 46 kills, three aces and three block assists for 50.5 points. She ranked fourth in scoring in the conference for the week, while her 3.83 kills per game also ranked fourth. On defense she ranked third in digs per game after totaling 55 in 12 games for a 4.58 average.
SCOUTING THE VULCANS:
University of Hawaii – Hilo has dropped just one match in the season, the loss came in the second meeting between them and Dixie State College. The Vulcans have yet to play a match that has gone into five sets, most of their wins have come in three straight sets. The Vulcans have five players who have accumulated more than 100 kills. But they are led by Josimara Pinheiro, she has 242 kills and 237 digs on the season. Fabiane Seben is right behind her with 238 kills on 450 attempts and is averaging a .382 hitting percentage, she has also racked up 73 total blocks. Katie Swenson has played in all 74 sets and dished out 894 assists.
LAST GAME RECAP:
The Academy of Art University women's volleyball team traveled just across the bridge to take on the Holy Names University Hawks at Tobin Gym. It was a hard fought battle that lasted five sets, but AAU prevailed victorious. The Urban Knights won the first two sets in a convincing fashion, 25-17, 25-18. Holy Names, however, rallied back to take the next two 26-24, 25-23, and AAU squeaked out a win in the fifth set to give them the win overall, 15-10.
For AAU
Dan Yang lead all players with 24 kills and 11 digs. Jakovljevic pitched in with 15 kills and 16 digs.
Heather Allen paced the Knights with 23 digs while
Melissa Cheng dished out 52 assists.
The win brings AAU's overall record to 16-7 and they remain 4-3 in conference play.
