San Francisco, CA – Boxer Stadium
Game Notes (includes season/career highs)
CONCLUSION OF PACWEST HOMESTAND:
Urban Knights men's soccer looks to end its seven-match homestand on a positive note with a rematch against
Dominican University. The last time these two teams met, the Penguins scored a late goal to give them the victory, but
Academy of Art will be on its home turf this time around. The Urban Knights are currently 2-5 at home this year with a five-match road trip on the horizon.
OPENING KICKOFF:
Academy of
Art University and
Dominican University face off on Oct. 17 at Boxer Stadium at 3:00 PM following the women's match.
HONORING SENIOR JAIME PATINO-CALVO:
Prior to kickoff this Saturday, a ceremony will be held for midfielder
Jaime Patino-Calvo, the team's lone senior this season. He currently leads the team with three assists.
SCOUTING THE PENGUINS:
Dominican University sported a 2-3 record at the conclusion of non-conference play before besting AAU and
Dixie State to start its first PacWest season undefeated. From then, DUC fell to Grand Canyon, NDNU, BYU-Hawaii,
Hilo, and tied HPU in double overtime. Offensively, the Penguins are led by forward Pedro Guevara who has five goals and three assists. Goalkeeper Matthew Carlson has played in all 12 matches amassing 1,019 minutes played, 43 saves, and 24 goals allowed.
AAU DEFEATED BY SILVERSWORDS 4-2:
The Urban Knights had a rough beginning to this week with a 4-2 loss to
Chaminade University on Oct. 12. Although AAU got on the board first with a goal by freshman forward
Daniel Higa on the opening shot of the match, CUH responded with a three-goal run before the first half concluded.
Academy of Art was called for a red card in the midst of that surge which only seemed to contribute to the frustration. An unassisted goal for Chaminade put the visitors up 4-1 and an ugly sequence in the final minute resulted in a penalty kick for junior midfielder
Manuel Padilla which he converted and the Knights came out of the match two goals behind.
MOVING FORWARD:
With the conclusion of the seven-match homestand, AAU men's soccer has nine days off before it begins a Hawaii road trip that will pit the Knights against BYU-Hawaii (Oct. 26) and Chaminade (Oct. 28) for the second time this season as well as match them up versus University of Hawaii – Hilo (Oct. 30).
