San Francisco, CA-- The Urban Knights came out with determination in their game against Chaminade University Monday morning. After being 0-5-2 in conference, the Academy of Art University women were stronger than ever at the start of the game, eager for their first win. Battling the Silverswords through a scoreless first half, the Urban Knights pulled together and were able to score three goals in the second half. The Urban Knights ended up taking the game from Chaminade with a final score of 3-0, marking their first win this season.
The Academy of Art University put the pressure on the Silverswords from the beginning. They stepped up their offense and recorded 14 shots in the first half. The Chaminade goal keeper kept her team in the game by posting five saves in the first half, keeping the Urban Knights scoreless. With the game tied at zero after the half, the Urban Knights came together still striving for the win and did not let up on the Chaminade defense.
The Urban Knights struck first when freshman
Carmela Doerr scored an unassisted goal in the 54th minute of play. Now with the lead, the Academy of Art University took control of the game.
Carmela Doerr scored again off a penalty kick in the 76th minute of the game, and
Jasmine Sharpe scored the final goal of the day with an assist from
Olivia Dupon in the 82nd minute. The Urban Knights outshot the Silverswords 30-4.

Solveig Barnes recorded her first win and shutout of the season. Barnes played all 90 minutes, had three saves and allowed no goals in the match.
Freshmen led the Urban Knights' offense this game as all three goals were scored by two freshmen.
Carmela Doerr led with six shots, three which were on goal and two goals in the game, and
Jasmine Sharpe had four shots, including two shots on goal and one goal on the day.
Olivia Dupon also did well with three shots, one which was on goal and one assist and
Morgan McKnight had three shots, including two shots on goal.
Emi Sullivan recorded eight shots, one which was on goal, and three other Urban Knight players had shots in the game.
For the Silverswords Ayasha Abut, Haley Miller and Whitney Williams all led the team with one shot on goal on the day. Goal Keeper Marissa Minor did well for Chaminade playing all 90 minutes, posting seven saves and giving up only three goals.
With the win, the Academy of Art University's record improves to 1-5-2 in conference and 1-10-2 overall, and Chaminade's record falls to 0-6 in conference and 0-9 overall. The Urban Knights play their final home game this season on Saturday, October 17th against Dominican University. Kick off is set for 1:00pm at Boxer Stadium.
