Women's Basketball Comes Up Short Against Seasiders

Box Score

Laie, HI (1/26/09) -- Continuing on their road trip in Hawaii, the Academy of Art University Women's Basketball team faced BYU Hawaii Monday night. The Urban Knights scored first and jumped out to a short lead in the first few minutes of play, but they were unable to hold onto the lead for very long. Despite three Academy of Art players scoring in double digits throughout the game, the ladies came up short and ended up losing the game 80-64.

The Urban Knights had strong offense on the night. As a team they shot 100 percent from the line, posted 38 rebounds and landed 50 percent of their 3 point attempts. But the solid offense was not enough to hold the Seasiders, and merely enough to keep them in the game. After pulling away with the lead 41-33 at halftime, the Seasiders held tough and did not let up.

Senior Forward Levalasi Key had a tremendous game for the Urban Knights. Key posted 22 points, with 10 rebounds and went 4-of-4 from the line. Also shining in the game were AAU junior Guard Caprice Hall who managed 17 points on the night, and junior Point Guard Sondra Stilwell who put up 11 points of her own.

Lead scorers from BYU Hawaii include Richelle Fenebock who had 21 points in the game, and Latoya Wily who posted 24 points for the Seasiders.

With the loss the Urban Knight's record falls to 5-16 overall, and BYU Hawaii's record improves to 8-7 on the season. The AAU Women are set to take action next on Wednesday January 28th. They are set to face the University of Hawaii-Hilo at 5:30pm in Hilo, HI.
