Current Statistics

OPENING TIP:
Following a rough four-game road-trip and less than 24 hours after Christmas Day, Academy of Art University will travel to Cal State Los Angeles to take on the Division II Golden Eagles. It is CSU LA's final game before they begin their conference season and the ninth consecutive road game for the Knights. Tip-off is set for 3:00 PM at CSU LA's Eagles' Nest.

LOOKING AHEAD:
From Dec. 29-30, AAU will still be on the road, but it will be much closer to home. Holy Names University in Oakland, CA is hosting a New Years Classic where the Urban Knights will take on Cal Maritime Academy and Holy Names on back-to-back days before they return to Kezar Pavilion to face American Sports University to begin 2009 on Jan. 2nd.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES:
Winless in the CCAA only because of two overtime losses at home earlier in the season (a 70-73 thriller against CSU San Bernardino and a 64-65 nail-biter to Cal Poly Pomona), the Golden Eagles are currently riding a three-game win streak. CSU LA defeated La Verne, 77-66, in its last contest on Dec. 20 and Texas A&M International, 82-69, on Dec. 17. It should be noted that the Golden Eagles also eked out a victory over AAU's most recent opponent Dixie State, 55-53, back on Nov. 29. Cal State LA puts three scorers named “Chris” in double figures per night led by guard/forward Chris Fields who averages 16.5 ppg and 4.3 rpg. Behind him, guard Christopher Hart adds 11.7 ppg, 4.7 apg and 2 spg while forward Chris Mark operates down low for 11.6 ppg and 7.6 rpg.

LAST GAME RECAP:
During the road trip that spanned Dec. 19 to Dec. 22, the Urban Knights suffered four tough losses to teams at both the Division I and Division II levels. In San Diego, AAU hung with USD for the first 10 minutes before a 15-3 run by the Toreros took them out of the contest en route to a 49-79 defeat. Then, in Las Vegas for a pair of games, a balanced attack by UCSD gave the Tritons a 40-62 victory and Cal State San Bernardino used two 48-point quarters to run away from the Knights early (54-96), overshadowing an 18 point performance from sophomore point guard Weleh Dennis. Finally, Academy of Art University faced conference opponent Dixie State in Utah where Dennis made six three-pointers and poured in a career-high 30 points, the most for an Urban Knight this season, but a 26-8 first-half surge by the Rebels forced AAU to play catch-up the rest of the way and the visitors would come no closer than 13 in the 62-78 loss.
