Oakland, CA (11/5/08)-- The Urban Knights defeated the Lady Hawks Tuesday night in four sets (25-23, 25-20, 26-28, 25-16) snapping their four-game losing streak. With the win, the Academy of Art University Lady Knights move to 17-10 and Holy Names drops to 11-14 overall.
The Urban Knights had three players who had double digits in kills on the night.
KaUwila Lavea led the charge with 14 kills and five block assists, right behind her was
Dan Yang who chipped in with 13 kills and 10 digs and rounding out the top was
Jelena Jakovljevic who finished the night with 10 kills on 16 attempts. AAU as a team out hit HNU .306 to .156.
Setting up the points were
Alexandra Leja who finished with a team-high 27 assists and
Olivia White who finished the night with 19.
Holy Names University setter Alyssa Giannuzzi was the overall assists leader, she finished with a match-high 40. Tinashe Spriggs and Ashley Nickell finished with 10 kills a piece.
Defensively for the Urban Knights,
Levalasi Key finished the night with two solo blocks and seven assisted blocks.
The Urban Knights return to the floor this Friday and Saturday for their final two home games. On Friday Nov. 7, the Knights take on Grand Canyon University at 7pm. Prior to the game, SAAC and C.A.S.E. will sponsor a tailgating party for students, faculty and fans that will include free food and prizes. Prior to the start of the game, AAU will announce the 2008/09 Men's and Women's Basketball teams.
On Saturday Nov. 8, AAU will play its final game of the season against Pac-West competitor Dixie State College. The game will start at 3pm at UCSF.
