Women's Volleyball Goes 0-4 in Hawaii

Academy of Art women's volleyball finished their four game road trip with a loss to BYU-Hawaii. BYU-Hawaii defeated the Urban Knights in three sets, 20-25, 17-25 and 19-25. With the win, the Sea Warriors move to 16-5 while AAU drops to 16-10 on the season. Academy of Art University struggled all week against very tough Hawaii schools and didn't see a difference in their luck against the Sea Warriors. 

An ace by Ali Tyson-Taufoou opened the first set, but a aill on the next play by Agnes Tuilevuka sparked a 13-4 run, boosting the Sea Warriors to 13-5 lead. The Sea Warriors were able to keep the Knights at a distance for most of the set until a kill by Levalasi Key and attacking errors by BYU allowed the Urban Knights to come to within one point, 19-18.  Academy of Art kept the Sea Warrior lead to within two points, but could never come any closer. BYU-Hawaii finished the set on a 4-1 run and won on a kill by Tanza Buroker.

AAU jumped out to an early lead in the second set, but the Sea Warriors rallied back to tie the frame at 9-9 and never looked back. The Urban Knights committed 13 attacking/service errors and dropped the second set 17-25. 

The third and final set saw the Urban Knights jump out to an early lead again, but they were unable to hold off BYU and dropped the last set 19-25. Offensively, BYU--Hawaii out hit AAU .216 to .100 on the match.

For the Urban Knights sophomore outside hitter Dan Yang had 11kills and 2 assisted blocks on the night, and senior middle-blocker Levalasi Key added 7 kills 4 assisted blocks. Freshman setter Olivia White dished out 17 assists and defensively, senior libero Levalasi Tupou had 11 digs.

For the Sea Warriors, Agnes Tuilevuka had a match-high 15 kills while Losaline Faka'osi chipped in with 12. LeeAnn Mapu lead the match with 41 assists. Melanie Manutai had 16 digs and Faylynn Merrick had three solo blocks and three assisted blocks.

The Urban Knights return to the floor this Tuesday when they take on Holy Names in Oakland at 7pm.

The Academy of Art women's volleyball team finish up their season this weekend taking on the visiting Grand Canyon Lopes on Friday, Nov. 7 at 7pm at Kezar Pavilion and the Dixie State Rebels this Saturday,  Nov. 8 at 3pm at UCSF.
