Box Score

Hilo, Hawai'i --
In the first of a four-match road stint in Hawai'i, Academy of Art University fell to the University of Hawai'i – Hilo Vulcans in three sets, 25-16, 25-23, 25-21. The loss snaps the Urban Knights' five-match winning streak and drops them to 16-7 on the season.

Sophomore outside hitter Dan Yang paced AAU with 16 kills, but no other Urban Knight had more than six kills as the visitors finished with a .132 attack percentage. Freshman setters Olivia White and Alexandra Leja each delivered 12 assists apiece.

For the Vulcans, Josimara Pinheiro notched 17 kills and Emily Tooker posted 35 assists.

The match began in a back-and-forth style until University of Hawai'i – Hilo went on a five point run to force AAU into a timeout. The break worked temporarily as a kill and a pair of Vulcan attack errors brought the Urban Knights back to a score of 18-16. Seven straight Vulcan points followed to establish a first set victory for the home squad, 25-16.

University of Hawai'i – Hilo continued to put pressure on AAU early in the second frame, but Academy of Art University would not quit. The match took an interesting turn as seven of the final 10 points came on attack errors and the Urban Knights dropped the game, 25-13.

Game three was tied 13-13 before a four-point, three-error swing in favor of the Vulcans gave them a permanent lead. AAU closed the gap to 23-19, but the match eventually ended in straight sets.

The Urban Knights will now travel to Honolulu, HI to take on the Chaminade University Silverswords tonight at 7PM. In their previous meeting earlier this year in San Francisco, Chaminade defeated AAU 3-0 in a match Academy of Art University lost despite totaling more kills and assists than the Silverswords.
