The Academy of Art University's Women's Soccer team faced a tough San Francisco State team Wednesday afternoon. Traveling just across town to face the Gators, the Urban Knights were not able to keep up with their competition and ended up losing the match 3-0.
The Urban Knights came out strong and were able to keep the Gator offense quiet, as the first half of the game remained scoreless. It wasn't until the 61st minute that the Gators scored their first goal off a corner kick. Despite being outshot (on goal) by SFSU 10-5, the AAU team held them to just three goals during the second half of play.
AAU freshman goalie Shelby Magallon had six of the seven saves for her team. Therasa Sianez and Lauren Johnson each posted two shots on goal during the game.
SFSU announced two days ago, that they are again in the top eight in the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA)/NCAA Division II West Region Rankings. With their win over AAU, the Gators remain undefeated on their home field.
With the loss, the Urban Knights drop to 1-7-1 on the season. The ladies leave home next week for a short road trip in which they face Dixie State College of Utah and Grand Canyon State, before returning back to the Bay.
