Emerging from the Spokane Indoor Challenge with some of the top marks in the country, Academy of Art track & field's Lina Hanich began 2023 on a strong note.

On Jan. 13, the Fashion Merchandising major opened the meet alongside her teammates Britney Clark, Michaela Andrews, and Katharina Goetschl in the distance medley relay by battling NCAA Division I Montana. Hanich helped put her team in front by 10 seconds in the opening leg, eventually leading the squad to an 20-second win and a final time of 12:05.39 which was the first NCAA Division II Indoor Nationals provisional by any quartet in the nation this season.

Hanich added another Indoor Nationals provisional on the second day, Jan. 14, going 2:13.47 in her first 800m of the Urban Knights' 2022-23 campaign. She again went up against multiple NCAA DI runners, these from Boise State, UC Irvine, and others, taking second of 18 overall and checking in at third in the country.
