Infielder Samantha Klune started her senior year on fire at the plate, hitting a team-best .467 (7-for-15) with two home runs, four runs batted in, a double, a triple, and six runs scored in five games during the MSU Billings Desert Stinger Tournament in Las Vegas.
After going 1-for-5 on the first day, the Acting major blasted her first homer of the year directly after freshman catcher Lauryn Henderson's two-run shot to give Academy of Art Softball a momentum-changing rally in what would become an 11-5 win over SF State on
Feb. 3. That day's nightcap saw Klune hit for extra bases once again with a double as part of a 1-for-3 effort versus UC San Diego. Then, in the final game of the tournament on
Feb. 4, the Long Beach, Calif. native was a perfect 3-for-3 with another homer, the second triple of her career, and three RBIs. She ended up finishing a double shy of hitting for the cycle.
On the year thus far, Klune ranks among the Pacific West Conference's top 15 in batting average, is tied with Henderson for the second-most homers, and ranks eighth in both RBIs and slugging percentage (1.067).
