Redshirt sophomore is enjoying the best season by an Academy of Art pitcher to date, and coming off his most recent outing, has lowered his ERA to 3.05 on the year, easily the best season number for the Urban Knights. The big right-hander came within a few feet of a shutout, throwing 6 2/3 innings without allowing a run against Point Loma Nazarene University on Friday before they scratched one across on what would be the final play of the game in the Knights 4-1 victory.
Gercken, a native of nearby Pinole, CA, threw his second straight complete game against the Sea Lions and has been one of the most in control pitchers in the conference, allowing only eight walks all season in 44.1 innings, a rate of 1.63 walks per nine inning pitched. For his career, his last start put his career ERA right at 5.00 (4.995 if you go the extra decimal place).
