Sophomore Haily MacDonald was a major contributor to the Urban Knights first two Pacific West Conference victories over UH Hilo this past weekend at home. In addition to extending what is currently an eight-game hitting streak with the first two triples of her career, MacDonald also made her first two starts of the season in the circle and dealt an effective 8.1 innings.
In the series opener, the sophomore went 2-for-3, driving in Academy of Art University's first run of the game and later scored as part of a four-run comeback in the sixth inning which led ART U to its 4-1 win. In game two, MacDonald then hit the pair of triples, allowed just two runs in 4.0 innings, and eventually scored the winning run on a delayed double steal with junior Elyse Cordova.
“When I was on third, I had full confidence in Elyse when she was up to bat,” MacDonald said. “When I saw her quick step [after the intentional walk], I just knew she was going to do and I knew we had it in the bag.”
For the week, MacDonald hit .467 (7-for-15) with three RBIs, two triples, two runs scored, and one stolen base. Three of the four games were multi-hit performances for the sophomore.
