Redshirt sophomore Nate Gercken, the only returner to the Urban Knights starting rotation from last season, battled through the flu to throw some quality innings for the Knights who would later win the game against Cal State Dominguez Hills in extra innings. Gercken had the best outing of the three starters for the Knights, going 3.1 innings and giving up only one run. Most importantly, Gercken stayed around the plate, striking out four while walking none. 

"That was a gutsy performance by Nate Gercken," said head coach Brian Guinn. "He was battling the flu, and the rest of the guys came in and finished the job. They did a great job today."
