Jenny Johannson has been coming on strong lately for the Urban Knights tennis team, winning five in a row before the close loss against San Jose State, and eight of her last ten singles matches. Johannson had the lone three-set battle against the Division I Spartans, losing the first set 3-6, but coming back to win the second set 6-4. It was a grueling match that fought through some bad weather, and with both teams looking on, the freshman dropped the tiebreaker to her Spartan opponent.
"Jenny Johansson had a great day," said head coach Jerry Peach. "She played just about the best tennis of the season for her and was right in there at #3 doubles which they could have won that after being up 4-1 at one point. She played for a tie-breaker in her singles match so hat’s off to her."
Johansson also paired with Paola Correa Fe to almost steal one from the Spartans in doubles play before rain washed out the final points. Since March 2, Johansson was dominating her opponents in the wins. In the ten sets over her five-match win streak, she won 6-0 in five of those, and 6-1 four times. Her stiffest competition came in the second set of the Southern Utah match, when Elizaveta Pleskan pushed her to a 6-3 mark.
