In a 2-2 week for ART U softball and in one of the biggest games the team has played thus far, Andrea Hanchey continued her solid 2012 performance. The junior utility was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in during the second game of the Urban Knights' matchup with No. 15 Chico State this past Friday. Academy of Art nearly knocked off the Wildcats in that one and it was Hanchey who delivered the RBI double to make it 2-1 in the third as well as the go-ahead RBI single with the bases loaded in the seventh. She would go on to two of the Knights' 18 runs Sunday against Humboldt State.
Hanchey finished the week 5-for-12 with a double, two RBIs, two runs scored, and a stolen base. The Galt, CA native has now reached base in nine consecutive games, but has also received high praise from head coach Rachel Sherman for her work defensively both behind the plate as a catcher and in the field.
“Dre is doing a great job on defense and in the box,” Coach Sherman said. “She is staying patient, truly getting an understanding of situational hitting, and sticking to a plan in the box. She is a competitor and the maturity she is showing on the field is making me proud.”
