Senior outfielder Ashley Lokey returned in a big way for the Academy of Art University softball team this past week. Lokey broke out with a 3-for-5 performance in the first contest of the year, adding a home run, four runs scored (a new program record), three stolen bases (ties the program record), and a run batted in. Much like she did in 2010, the Eugene, OR native provided an offensive spark at the top of the ART U batting order. She had a hit in game two against Cal State East Bay (Feb. 1) and then drove two in and scored once against defending CCAA Champions Sonoma State (Feb. 4).
For the week, Lokey reached base in all four contests, posting a .375 batting average (6-for-16), with a home run, a double, three RBIs, six runs scored, and four stolen bases.
“It's great to have Lokey back in our lineup,” head coach Rachel Sherman said. “Her leadership in the outfield is refreshing and offensively she started off right where she finished a year ago."
