Junior guard Jordan Rogers had two of her best games of the season for ART U women's basketball in a 1-1 week highlighted by the Urban Knights' 67-62 victory over Saint Martin's this past Wednesday, Dec. 14. Making her second and third starts of the year, Rogers averaged 16.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game during the week. She achieved a 21-point, 13-rebound performance against Cal Baptist on Dec. 17, setting season-highs in both categories.
Starting off the week against the Saints, Rogers came alive during Academy of Art's fierce second half comeback with seven of her 11 points in that period. The Sparks, NV native capped an 18-3 ART U run with a 3-pointer to put the Knights up by 10 with 4:52 left. Then, in the start of conference play on Saturday, Rogers had a career game. Scoring in double figures in each half, the junior knocked down three 3-pointers in the first period then was instrumental in another second half Academy of Art burst, all the while collecting 13 rebounds as a guard.
“Honestly, I thought Jordan was the only one who was consistently playing well throughout both halves of the game [against Cal Baptist],” head coach LaNay Larson said. “We've got to give her the ball more because she's a little too unselfish right now. But she really did a great job rebounding. For a kid we've had to limit in practice [due to injury], she comes in and does a good job on both ends of the court for us. She has a very high basketball IQ and her value doesn't always appear on the stat sheet.”
