Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

ART U Breaks Win Streak Record with 5-0 Victory

SAN FRANCISCO -- Academy of Art Women's soccer has broken the record for longest win streak in program history. The team earned their fourth straight victory by defeating Mills College in dominant fashion 5-0. The eventful game saw career firsts, season highs, and goals from five different Urban Knights.

In a first half that was completely dominated by the Urban Knights, ART U struck first with a goal in the 20th minute. Working from the left side of the field Senior midfielder Rocky Herrera thrashed a ball from 25 yards out to the top right shelf. Freshman midfielder Reyna Valencia was awarded the assist after taking a shot that was deflected to Herrera.

Academy of Art added another in the 32nd minute when recently subbed in junior forward Jenny Wittor drove down the right corner and crossed in a ball on the ground. Junior forward Anissa Wilson put an excellent one touch in the right side of the net to put the Urban Knights up 2-0. Wilson continued to pressure the Cyclone's defense, when just a minute and a half later she assisted freshman midfielder Brooklyn Morera for her first career goal as a Knight. The Los Angeles native quickly dribbled the ball up the right side of the field. After clearing some space she ripped a shot past the goalie to the top left corner. ART U now lead Mills 3-0.

18722Not to be overshadowed by the offense, who finished the half with a season high 21 shots, more than they have had in any full game, Academy of Art's defense completely shut down any notion of scoring by not allowing a single shot the entire half. This is the first time they have accomplished this tremendous feat since Oct. 1, 2015 against Chaminade.

The second half featured more of the same as the Urban Knights continued dominating both sides of the ball putting up 13 shots to the Cyclones two. Their first goal of the half came from senior midfielder Silvia Fernstrom on a superbly lobbed free kick from Herrera. The veteran Fernstom was able to corral the ball and chip a shot just over the reach of the opposing goalkeeper. After 62 minutes the game was firmly out of reach as the score ascended to 4-0.

Academy of Art ended their offensive assault in the 80th minute.  Playing in an unfamiliar position at forward, sophomore goalkeeper Lara Pflicke split two defenders with a sensational through ball that met freshman forward Reyna Valencia in perfect stride. The freshman wasted no touches, hitting the ball on the first touch to the top right of the goal. This is Valencia's first career goal.

With the 5-0 win, ART U moves to a dazzling 4-1, their best start in program history. Through five games the Urban Knights are already tied for second most wins in a single season. The team has only had one season with more than four wins, coming in 2012 when they had seven.

ART U will have one more non-conference tuneup against California Maritime Saturday Sept. 15, before shifting into their PacWest schedule Monday Sept. 17 at Fresno Pacific.
